- Fish sauce does not taste fishy, but adds a level of umami, or savory flavor, to the dish. Not all fish sauces taste the same, so you may have to try a couple before you find one you like. You can omit the fish sauce if you want.

Prep Steps
- Peel carrots and cut into 1/4 inch pieces to measure the indicated amount.
- In a small mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, fish sauce, sesame oil and sesame seeds.
Cook Steps
- Combine chicken broth, water and rice in a large pot. Set over high heat. Proceed with next step as liquid comes to a boil.
- Once liquid is boiling, cover pot, lower heat and simmer for [15 minutes] until all the liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat but leave covered. If liquid is not absorbed, reset timer for an additional 3 minutes.
- Add carrots to warm rice and leave covered for [5-8 minutes] to soften.
- Add soy sauce mixture to rice and fluff with a fork. Transfer to a serving bowl or dinner plates and serve warm.
